Course Overview

Our 11-months Value Course is designed for individuals who would like to learn and practice counselling therapy skills and competencies as a Support Counsellor. Support counsellors are trained counsellors who give support to people in their communities by listening to them and helping them talk over their problems. People come to talk to Support Counsellors about life issues or conflicts they are experiencing; their relationships and their goals. They are passionate about ensuring that everyone feels deeply understood and heard whilst also helping them find ways to resolve issues they might be having. NVR Academy & Training helps you become a qualified Support Counsellor with qualifications and practical counselling experience. You will feel confident that you can make a difference in someone's life and engage in a relationship that is enriching and supportive with your clients.

What the course entails

Our Introductory Support Counselling track offers extensive knowledge and trains students in practical applications of support counselling skills at a variety of different settings and establishments. Our students will receive training in how to deal with clients of different age groups and with different challenges.

They will also be trained in a range of modalities that will entail communication/personal development skills, enhancing self-awareness and reflective abilities that will be highly valued in a range of organizations and personal life situations. This entire course enables the student to feel that he/she can make a difference in someone’s life and engage in a relationship that’s enriching and supportive.

The generic scope of Support Counselling life skills practice is that of wellness which includes but is not limited to providing support in:

Completed course outcome

Our training will prepare our students to:

Understand what support counselling truly means
Appreciate the need of support counsellors
Clarify the misconceptions relating to support counselling
Apply counselling skills with a different number of clients in individual, couple or group sessions
Deal with a diverse range of challenges presented by clients of different age groups (Children, Adolescent, Adults and Elderly)
Develop a range of communication skills, personal development skills, enhancing self-awareness and reflective abilities
Receive professional training to deliver in a variety of qualified supervision institutional settings and establishments like schools, clinics, hospitals police station, churches, hospices, counselling practices and similar settings.

Assessing and setting standards

Our course is specifically designed to engage the student with the content in a practical and ethical manner. Each track will challenge the learner through interaction, question and answering scenarios and case studies with competency tracking and training evidence. Each track module will present outcome based objectives achievable upon completion.

Competencies:

To apply interpersonal skills by entering into a helping relationship with a client
To apply support counselling tools and techniques to assist, support, debrief and encourage a client in need
To apply knowledge of health and wellness in a support counselling context in order to screen for health profile
To manage a support counselling consultation with reference record keeping, confidentiality, ethical codes, legal requirements and professional conduct within own scope of practice
To apply communication and numerous skills in order to analyze, interpret and evaluate information in a support counselling context
To identify and assist the client to make responsible challenging decisions using critical and creative thinking for satisfying results
To take care of themselves whilst they are counselling others
To deal with real-world challenges faced as a counsellor whilst settling in, maintaining and working in a counselling environment.

Registration and Assessment fee = R300.00 (payable and forwarded with registration)- non refundable

Payment Option 1

11 Month-Program (Early Bird Special) = R14500.00 payable before 15.12.2024 with completed registration form and before registration pack received.

No refunds will be given, but course may be paused and continued the following year for medical conditions only, with a certified letter of confirmation from a registered legal/medical professional. NB: Course will be done from the start again with additionally cost, paying the yearly increased balance in full before continuing the course. (strictly: no payment plan applicable)
